Great question, right now the answer is no. The technology is not there for wave energy as the industry is very young and needs more time to develop. Currently, the biggest problem is the cost of generating the energy, while the energy that is harnessed is free, the device, maintenance, deploying the devices are not. A lot of work is being done to improve this, but there are always going to be problems along the way. But in the future, I believe that it will become a sustainable source of electricity. Maybe not for every country, but definitely for us in Ireland. There have been estimates that wave energy has the potential to supply around 40% of the demand for electricity in the world. Now whether it achieves this I don’t know, but there is huge potential there.
