Rainbows are actually an optical illusion! So you need sun and rain at the same time, usually in the western sky. You need to be standing at 42 degrees from the light. If you move from this angle you can’t see the rainbow! The rainbow happens as the light breaks into multiple rays as it passes through the raindrop.
