I liked the idea of getting out & about. I didn’t like being in an office all day! I did environmental science in college so I could hopefully work outdoors.!

      Great question!
1st a four-days excursion during my BSc degree; 2nd a one month internship; 3rd practical experiences during my MSc, including writing the thesis in a project.

Much I got hooked by practical experiences and an open mind.

I worked on a outbreak of Hepatitis A ( a virus) in frozen berries. I loved doing outbreak investigations. I felt like Sherlock Holmes. I wanted to learn more about why viruses are hard to detect in food so I went to Denmark to learn from an expert and I haven’t looked back at all!

During my studies, i did an internship in a company that tried to find a way to remove an oil contamination from a groundwater around a refinery (factory transforming oil in other products like car fuel, plastic material, packaging etc…). This company studied in detail the impact of this contamination on land and suggested solutions to protect the local environment and population, but did not had the means to estimate the quantity or the impact of that groundwater after it flowed to the sea.
Years later, i saw my current project, which suggested to use a series of techniques to estimate the flow and effect of groundwater to large sections of coastlines. Interested, I decided to learn these techniques and contribute to this field to help allowing the better consideration of groundwater flow to coastlines, as i had noticed before that it was one of the conditions to help protecting coastlines, and from there, some of our health and well-being.
