I enjoyed Biology in school & wanted to work outdoors, I knew a job as an Environmental Scientist would involve getting outdoors – sampling rivers, lakes, investigating pollution incidents, looking at invertebrates in rivers (small animals with a back bone), even sampling chimney stacks for air pollutants! I really didn’t want to be stuck in an office all day!!

Hello Kasey. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do after leaving school when I was 17 and nearly studied music at university. I thought about what it would be like to work in the music industry, either as a performer, producer or teacher and realised I didn’t really like the day to day life of a musician. I decided to study Food Science and Nutrition at university because I like chemistry at school and I also was really interested human nutrition and food reformulation. I ended up loving working on food safety and have followed that path since 2014. I love that my work helps people to eat safer food and decreases food waste.
